My Tolkien watercolors
|
Can't Post

Hi everybody! This is my first post on your forum (but hopefully not the last). I thought I'd show off some of my own Tolkien art: "Fire and Shadow" "He Battled With the Dumbledores" (from my favourite Tolkien poem "Errantry") "The Mewlips" (from, well, the poem "The Mewlips") "Old Oliphaunt am I!" These are all posted on Elfwood, as you can see. Right now I'm working on a short suite of pictures illustrating "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil", and they'll go up on Elfwood as well when they are finished. Cheers for now!

Your watercolors are so lively and full of energy! I particularly like "Fire and Shadow," as much for what you don't show of the Balrog as for what you do. And I like the look in the eye of the "Old Oliphaunt."
With caffeine, all things are possible. The pity of Bilbo will screw up the fate of many.

Glad you liked them. I should've shown even less of the Balrog but I couldn't resist putting fangs on him. Probably shouldn't have done it, though. Thanks for looking!

Its very animated, and the watercolor technique is lovely and works well with the drawings! You have a nice feel for the evil characters, particularly, I think! -ML aka -Debbie/primmy

I think the bad guys can be more interesting to illustrate, as long as you give them character. In Tolkien's work you do, however, have characters that walk a fine line between good and evil, sometimes without realizing it. That's what I really like about these stories. Glad you like my drawing style! Thank you for your very nice comment=)

You are good at drawing animals, although without the caption, I would say your Mewlips look like Goblins! I like your Gandalf, by the way. I am glad that another artist whose inspiration is not restricted to the movie has seen fit to share his art with us!

Well, I pictured the Mewlips as a sort of cross between orcs and zombies. There are many theories about what they really are. Mostly they're something to scare little hobbitses with. Thanks for your comment about my art. I'm glad to be able to share it with people who are interested.

That would make a great greeting card. Very cute! I'm looking forward to your other illustrations.

It is an very interesting variety. Lively jumps to my mind as well. Nothing tentitive about it. I'd never heard of Mewlips, or the poem before. I'll have to track that down.

I really like the picture that you drew off of "He Battled With the Dumbldores". It was very well done, and you do draw animals very well. Keep up the good work!
Dagonet, Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shdows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
