This is so not how I wanted my winter break to start. Thanks, gramma, and see you around!

My progress: Miles covered this week(by Thursday):18.7 Cumulative miles: 26.7 Goal: Bag End to Rivendell By Wednesday going up and down hills, camped for a few days, then made slow progress to where last night I stopped for a lovely view over the Woody End to the Brandywine. I'll have to get moving if I want to see Elves before the end of the week!
Growth after all is not so much a matter of change as of ripening, and what alters most is the degree of clarity with which we see one another. -Edith Pargeter

Camping by a (well-behaved) river does sound lovely

The key being 'well-behaved'. My kids and I once camped by a river during a training I was doing with Girl Scouts. All night long, the peepers (tiny frogs) would start chorusing, then stop, then start again, then stop. Just as I was getting used to the noise, it would stop; just as I was getting used to the quiet, they would start up again. I wanted to yell at them, 'Knock it off, guys - the ladies aren't interested!' But it was still beautiful. Sadly, the camp no longer exists, as it was washed away when the river rechanneled in the floods we had in 2013. I hope you find the Elves this week, and good journey to you, Gwytha!
