The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings – UNPARALLES Can't Post

Dissimilarities in sequential events between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. (Books.)

The Hobbit- The Party was Unexpected.
The Lord of the Rings- The Party was Long-expected.

H- Bilbo left in the morning with a half-finished second breakfast.
LOTR- Frodo left in the evening after a completed supper.

H- Bilbo left without a walking stick or a hanky.
LOTR- Frodo left with a walking stick and (probably several handkerchiefs).

H- Bilbo started on pony-back.
LOTR- Frodo started afoot.

H- Bilbo was captured by three Trolls.
LOTR- Frodo wasn’t captured by three Trolls.

H- Bilbo spent two weeks in Rivendell.
LOTR- Frodo spent two months in Rivendell.

H- Bilbo’s first orc was encountered high up in the Misty Mts.
LOTR- Frodo’s first orc was encountered low down under the Misty Mountains.

H- Bilbo floated down a river on a barrel.
LOTR- Frodo floated down a river in a boat.

H- Bilbo was invisible on Ravenhell during the Battle of Five Armies.
LOTR- Frodo was invisible in Orodruin during the battle before the Morannon.

H- Bilbo’s return home was with the Ring.
LOTR- Frodo’s return home was without the Ring.

H- Bilbo returned home to an auction (the free-enterprise system at work).
LOTR- Frodo returned home to a locked gate and “RULES” (a totalitarian state).

These amazing unparallelisms cover only the highlights of these two adventures and I suppose the possibility exists that other dissimilarities may be noted by those of a more scrutinizing nature.

“Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.”
But, sneaking off in daylight takes much more cunning.

A couple [In reply to] Can't Post

I see the trolls a little differently:

H: Bilbo is captured by 3 live (hungry), dangerous trolls.
LOTR: Frodo encounters 3 petrified, harmless trolls.

H: Bilbo's first encounter with orcs, as with trolls, was to captured without a fight.
LOTR: Frodo's 1st encounter with orcs was all fight, no capture.

H: Bilbo and his company are chased up trees by wolves rather than fight.
LOTR: Frodo and his company stand their ground and fight the wolves.

H: In the wolf attack, it was the orcs who set the trees on fire to kill Bilbo & Co.
LOTR: It was Gandalf who set the nearby trees on fire to kill the wolves.

H: The Ring was quite helpful to Bilbo.
LOTR: The Ring's invisibility was occasionally helpful to Frodo & Sam, but was usually treacherous.

H: Bilbo lost 3 of his original companions.
LOTR: Frodo lost only 1 companion (since he got Gandalf back).

Ok, now we're cooking [In reply to] Can't Post

I was wondering when someone would come up with some different "unparallelisms".

Way to go Curious....WinkWink
