... but the filmmakers made him younger for the movies, with Balin being the oldest.

I remember reading in several instances that he is the oldest and maybe followed by Balin and then the others. Ori seems like the youngest in movie-verse. In the movie, Thorin looks younger than Balin but in the book, i am quite certain Thorin is the eldest in the company.
