The Party Tree is much bigger than a 60 year old oak. It might seem unimportant, but trees were a huge part of Tolkien's life and influences, and it's obvious from the books that the Party Tree is a local landmark - although I don't think it says what species it was, it is big enough to be several hundred years old, if it's an oak.
