I just realized that Legolas threw his sword (Orcrist) at the orc Thorin was fighting...and Thorin threw his sword at the orc that was about to kill Legolas in Desolation of Smaug! That must have been on purpose! How cool! :)

It was quick, but Legolas has a moment of hesitation - makes a face as if thinking he *really* doesn't want to give up that sword, and then finally gives an 'oh fine' look and throws it. Loved that moment .

that was also cool, because it was Thranduil who did it, after all the conflict that had occured between Thorin and him. But an entirely satisfactory substitute for sure. I also have for some reason a soft spot for the mention, in the book, that in future times, Orcrist would provide warning to the Dwarves of the approach of enemies,
