Which poster is the "main" one?

It's probably that 'tree' one, finishing up with the enormous Bilbo head at the top.

I don't think that's the main theatrical poster. I think the one with Bilbo holding out Sting is the main poster.

The Bilbo one is showing up in all the usual places where the "main" poster is used.

It's hanging up in my theater, the Apple Trailer page uses it (as does the Official Hobbit website), etc. That's definitely the final US poster, not the collage one.
"The danger with any movie that does as well as this one does is that the amount of money it's making and the number of awards that it's got becomes almost more important than the movie itself in people's minds. I look at that as, in a sense, being very much like the Ring, and its effect on people. You know, you can kind of forget what we were doing, if you get too wrapped up in that." - Viggo Mortensen

Surely the 'floating heads' is the final theatrical poster, as is usual?

https://www.facebook.com/.../?type=3&theater These are always the posters they use as the final posters which are then replicated on the regular DVD covers etc. The Bilbo with Sting posters are being used quite a bit, but I can't imagine they have changed the usual marketing for this film. Then again.... this is WB!
