Mae govannen everyone. My apologies for my tardiness again. Last weeks little puzzle was: Given a choice between mortality (yet long life), and immortality, this ring-bearer chose the latter (brother chose the former). And the answer of course was Earendil and Elwing's baby boy Elrond Half-Elven. The second part of the answer was Elros (The ancestor of our beloved Aragorn), and the third part was Vilya, the ring of the sky. Congrats to all who answered correctly. Now the point run-down (4 possible): Dernwyn 4 Peredhil 4 Tyler 4 Elf-Wannbee 4 Smeagolofthestoors 4 Overall: Dernwyn 15 Idril 11 Peredhil 13 Elven 5 vtboyarc 2 Tyler 10 Elf-Wannabee 11 Aunt Dora 4 smeagolof thestoors 6 This week's is a 2 -fer. Two answers, 4 points. These two are polar opposites. This descendant of Ungoliant is as ugly and evil, as this maiden is beautiful and kind. Good luck everyone!!! Namarie. Oh, and if anyone is interested, go to YouTube and type in MelodxKay in the search box, and look for something of special interest to many of us. Look for the vid titled Namarie. It's a collection of pics from LotR, and there's a voiceover of a girl reciting Galadriel's Lament in Elvish. Try to check it out!

Although I don't think I'd put these two together in the Arena! Shelob, and Arwen Undómiel. Was there a particular reason, for using the untrilled "r" in "Arwen"? Gotta head to work shortly, but I'll check out that link later, thanks!

Of course my money would be on Shelob, and not Arwen Undomiel.

I come up with "Shelob" and "Arwen Undomiel". I'm not sure I would have gotten it without your hint, though, since I'm still not very good with the vowels. Thanks for posting these: I'm learning a lot!

To dernwyn: From what I've read ("Introduction to Elvish" and "The Languages of Tolkien", Not to mention the nifty Tengwar transcriber), the R is always trilled to some degree, but the placement determines the usage. In Elrond, the R is placed before a vowel, so the "trilled" version is used. In Celeborn, the R is placed before a consonant, therefore the "untrilled" version is used. Aragorn has both uses.

pronouncing Arwen as "ahr-wen", but not for Hugo Weaving, who pronounced it "arrr-wen"!
