So we can safely assume in the future the series is officially "The Middle-Earth Saga" Can't Post

I remember a while back there was a discussion about what the joint film trilogies of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings would be called. It looks like from the teaser of BOFA and this image from the appendices of DOS EE we have our answer. What do you guys think? Would you have called it something different. Is this what we can expect on future box sets? Sorry if this is old, I hadn't seen it discussed here in a while and thought it would be a fun thing to talk about

Took this screencap from the DOS EE's, it's located in the "2nd Movement" music of the Hobbit documentary.

Also just posted it since I thought it was a really nice image and wasn't sure how many people here had seen it.

Personally... [In reply to] Can't Post

... I would prefer "The One Ring Saga" but it really doesn't matter.

The Grey Pilgrim, they once called me. Three hundred lives of men I walked this earth, and now I have no time...

I heard the Marvel´s announcement and I see that a new age is rising and... [In reply to] Can't Post

that the Middle-Earth saga is a proper name of what is about to come (yes Silmarillion, yes). It fits very well

I don't love the word 'saga' (mainly as SW call theirs that) but can't think of anything better. // [In reply to] Can't Post

There is no saga [In reply to] Can't Post

There could have been. And there should have been. But Peter Jackson decided to completely muck up The Hobbit with a ridiculously dumb tone. So now there is The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, and the unrelateable doofus hobbit movies.

You realize, don't you... [In reply to] Can't Post

... that the word 'saga' DID exist before Star Wars. Tongue
Saga (SAH-guh) n. 1) any narrative or legend of heroic exploits; 2) a dramatic story of a group, place, industry, etc.; 3) any very long story with dramatic events or parts. Evil

Well, I happen to have used exactly this title myself [In reply to] Can't Post

a few days ago in a post on this Board, so obviously to me at least it feels right!... Wink
And as someone pointed out in this present thread, it leaves the door open to a future "Silmarillion' addition, who knows?!... Sly That would be so great... Cool

This mentality makes me sad. [In reply to] Can't Post

LotR will not be "tainted" by anything. It's there as is, and will continue to be there, unchanged, forever. Same goes for the books.

the LOTR films [In reply to] Can't Post

will and are tainted by TH. The characters and story are lessened by all the shoehorning of LOTR references into TH. Whether its Tauriel glowing or Gandalf phoning in his performance.

Statements such as this leave very little room for discussion, don't they? [In reply to] Can't Post

And another thing. You first agree with R11 that "there is The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, and the unrelateable doofus hobbit movies" and say that you "dont want LOTR tainted by association with TH". But now you say: "the LOTR films will and are tainted by TH. The characters and story are lessened by all the shoehorning of LOTR references into TH." Aren't you contradicting yourself?

Sounds to me like he's saying... [In reply to] Can't Post

that LotR currently stands on it's own merits if you dissociate it from the prequel trilogy, so he doesn't like the idea of a boxed "Saga" set.... because once you watch TH, all the nudges and nods to LotR have a knock-on effect on that trilogy.
