I doubt if people could leave their country of origin without a passport so how could a visa be issued?
I thought it was one of the conditions that entrants should have a passport?

BUT?...if this a

Anyway Bomby is gunna get a Passport this morning

Bomb guesses there will be a Single
Chartered Plane from LA, Ca...loaded with winners.
Others from Singapore, India, etc would
probably connect in Auckland.

You need a passport to travel to other countries

Even if you're a US citizen, you need a passport to travel to Canada and Mexico. I'm sure they didn't put that in the rules because it's not a rule specific to the contest, but is required by all countries.
The US and New Zealand have a treaty so you would not need a visa, or if you do it's a very easy form to complete. Some countries, however, do require a visa for their citizens to travel to New Zealand.

There will be no work-around for this one, I am afraid.
A passport will be a must-have whether it is in the rules or not.
