... along with some different "creatures" in the orc army. "All the Middle-earth battles have been different because they tell different stories", Jackson insists. "Here I wanted to do things we had never done before. Obviously there are orcs fighting elves and men, but I wanted to bring in more creatures. The orcs have all manners of creatures. Not just trolls, but creatures they have bred for their armies. They are like the panzer tanks of the orc armies."
Now now Bill, you swore this was a battle between warriors, not a bunch of miss nancies, so warriors is what I brought

I don't really see a confirmation of trolls...

...it is rather a juxtaposition: we know that orcs have trolls fighting for them (from LOTR), but this time they have other creatures they bred for their armies.

...."As for mixing character moments with action, he says: "What we're trying to do is have a lot of that conflict and resolution happen during the course of the battle, so it doesn't just become all action. "There's still a plot with the characters to follow, even though they're surrounded by fighting trolls and orcs and things.".. Remember PJ said that in HIS Battlezz about every 4th shot should be about the Principles in Battle, so like Helms Deep much that happens... HAPPENZZ...to our Heros.. WITH about 20+ Characters we care about? Thizz will be why It will be so EPIC! Yea! PJ

"... they're surrounded by fighting trolls and orcs and things." ... it's kinda difficult to see that it's anything else than a confirmation of trolls being present att BotFA.

... however, I don't think anyone of the big orcs are crossbreeds between orcs and trolls. PJ has mentioned somewhere that Azog is of a "purer" breed than the other orcs, and hence a little closer to the orcish race's elvish roots.

Most of the conflicts that could be resolved have been set up in the previous two films. Azog/Thorin; Bolg/Legolas; Beorn/Azog; Kili/Tauriel/Legolas; etc. Thorin/Bilbo should be resolved on Thorin's deathbed.

...for me will be: + Bilbo/Thorin + Thorin/Gandalf + Thorin/Elvenking + Gandalf/Saruman + Bard/Smaug A few other minor conflicts may also play out in the last film including + Thorin/Balin (to a lesser extent but would be interesting nonetheless) + Elvenking/Tauriel + Bard/Alfrid/the Master

good to know that Jackson seems to assert his (hopefully!) last ME movie is not just an ad for techs / "it doesn't just become all action." "There's still a plot with the characters to follow, even though they're surrounded by fighting trolls and orcs and things.".. Hurrah! There's actually a PLOT!! THERE'S STILL A PLOT!!!! THX PJ!
