Our church had a retreat at a camp in the mountains this weekend. Uncle Baggins and I were walking on the boardwalk between two lodges when a group of teenagers came running past us. One of them said to the others, "When you're going on an adventure, you can't walk. You have to jog everywhere." Made me think of Bilbo :-) And it seemed to be true. Everybody under the age of about 20 seemed to be running the whole weekend.

There is no walking in Cub Scouts.
I am SMAUG! I kill when I wish! I am strong, strong, STRONG! My armor is like tenfold shields! My teeth like swords! My claws, spears! The shock of my tail, a thunderbolt! My wings, a hurricane! And my breath, death!

we would just lay ourselves out on this ridiculously long, handmade, 17 foot plywood kayak and drift. On the weekends, there were often youth groups on the river and they would make so much commotion! splashing and laughing and shouting and paddling furiously. We'd always kind of smile as they made their way past us. They would, of course, scare any wildlife for a quarter mile away. lol. I guess they had different goals than us. It was nice when they had moved past and life got quiet and drifty again. :-)

We were up on the tundra, where it was breathtakingly beautiful. Some people passed us, loudly talking about "investment bankers" or some such thing. I said "Shhhh!' They looked about to see if there was an elk or something. So I added in a whisper, "You're so noisy!" They quieted down until they got a ways ahead of us, and then began chattering again. I wondered if they saw any of the beauty around them.
