Oxforddictionaries.com I think, rather than the OED (to be super pedantic). So are you you saying that you think BOFA might be a crime or espionage film?

Sounds perfect for the TC. This is the climax of the films, we don't want a slow meandering film!

I love Tolkien like all here, but let's be honest, his handling of BOFA is not particularly thrilling to read!

In any case, the definition I posted here is in my hard-copy edition of the OED, thus the OED published by Oxford University Press. I've no idea what BOFA might be – I wouldn't put anything past the film-makers, given what I saw in DOS.

... is the one he's working on at the moment. That's quite normal for people doing creative work - it would be awful to reach a position where the previous film/book/painting was your favourite and you were still slogging on afterwards, trying to recapture the magic. The current one gives you the chance to get everything just that bit better, and when you're still involved with it you don't really think about the others..

The one I'm posting is from the online edition. By chance, it seems, the one you mentioned is mirrored at the website oxforddictionaries.com, word for word. Instead it must be from the 1989 edition, if it is in hard copy, so presumably less up to date. But that's by the by, I suppose. Well, I must say I'm surprised to hear that you are genuinely considering that BOFA might be a crime caper or a spy drama. Further, if you don't rule anything out, I suppose you also hold open the ideas that it might turn out to be film noir, science-fiction or a musical? From my perspective, I think it is not a possibility that the final middle earth film will feature cops, robbers or secret service agents so it's probably easier for me to interpret the term "thriller" in line with the current OED sense and suggesting an exciting, dramatic, tense and sensational fantasy film.

How could PJ resist?

I think the real worry is that the mentions of canon have the wrong homophone. Surely we cannot rule out the idea that this might be a pirate picture? There is no reason to think this won't be the battle of the five armies on galleons.

I've suddenly cottoned on to what he meant by 'thriller'! The final film will be a thriller emulating Michael Jackson's Thriller – but with zombie-eyed Legolas in the starring role. We have been somewhat prepared for this, what with the fixed pupils, flat face and odd-evil behaviour. All will be revealed – Legolas has actually come back from the dead, and will be resurrected for the LotR films, hence his younger, fresher look in those. That's the crucial link between the two sets of films we will be provided with!

Different time periods, future generations. I think we should not dismiss the idea that there will be a time travelling element, possibly even time travelling pirates. It could easily be BTTBOTFAOG.

I'm a bit concerned because PJ seems to be turning into the new Goerge Lucas. DOS was the worst of the five, IMHO, and it was his favourite... Let's just hope he remembers he is the one who created LOTR... but, sincerely, I've lost my faith.
