Where's the crystal?

Something that drew my attention in these pictures and teaser of the teaser trailer was the fact that Gandalf apparently has Radagast's staff. But where's his crystal? Another thing on the "Staff mystery" list... What do you think?

The crystal was something Gandalf put in once the fellowship hit Moria and they needed a light.

Just checked. Moria is when we first see it. So we probably won't see the crystal in the next movie, unless Gandalf is going somewhere pretty dark.....

I think Radagast removes that too though, doesn't he?

Regarding this, Gandalf´s staff in DoS seems to have the shape of his withe one inside. Plus it prodeuces the same light as is withe one in ROTK against the Nazguls

Are you saying he doesn't need a crystal to produce light? Because that very well may be so.

It is a little strange that Gandalf uses the crystal to produce light in FotR, and yet in AUJ and TTT and RotK he just uses his plain staff. Although I have to say, the crystal looks cooler.

Perhaps we could say Rady´s is a lesser staff but the fact that you can change crystals ...

I like to rationalize it this way....

I like to think that Gandalf uses the crystal in Moria because of the prolonged period of time requiring light. They were in Moria quite some time. Maybe he can produce light without the crystal, and often does so when he doesn't want to take the time to pull out his crystal and stick it in the top of the staff. If using the crystal is less taxing/more sustainable, then perhaps he uses it when he knows they need a sustainable torch. Just my little rationalization. I don't think that movies have to make perfect sense, but I sure like to try to find a way to trick myself into thinking that they do.
