You can see the full-sized image here. You have to admire Thranduil's armour texture!

The one elf has his sword drawn, and the others have dirty/scarred faces. So fighting already occured???

The question is... what happenend to Glamdring in Dol Guldur? Somehow Gandalf got it back later. This sword is not Glamdring although the sheath could be the one of Aragorn from FOTR and TTT... so confusing. I believe PJ and his staff want to confuse us.

Forget about the scabbard (although I don't think that is Glamdring's scabbard anyway--this one is shorter and wider and seems to be brown instead of black), look at the pommel of the sword. There is absolutely no way that that is Glamdring in that photo.

Didn't Gandalf lose Glamdring in Dol Guldur anyways? He'll get it back eventually, but maybe not until after the final battle.

Come on people. Same silver pommel leading into the silvered lower part of the hilt, leading into the same blue grip, with the same curved guards. The scabbard is the same, too. http://www.iloveswords.com/images/LOTR/MDL_glamdring.jpg It's just at an awkward angle.

Note the blue belt to which the scabbard is attached. This is the exact same belt that came with Glamdring. Compare the scabbards; the same color, the same grooves, with the same little ball on the same metal end. Scabbards are tailored specifically to the swords they are meant to hold; it's not a one size fits all deal. So if this is not Glamdring, that means Gandalf was given a new sword that fits exactly into Glamdring's scabbard (still attached to Glamdring's belt). If PJ wanted Gandalf to get a new sword, I'm pretty sure WETA would have gone all the way and designed a unique belt and scabbard. So, let's see: The belt and scabbard match Glamdring's. A scabbard does not generally fit multiple swords. The color-scheme of the sword (as far as can be seen) is the same as Glamdring's. The guards bend the same way. It's a matter of applying Occam's razor. The light reflects oddly from the pommel, which is seen at an awkward angle.

If that is Glamdring then the angle is concealing much of the pommel detail and the end is seriously dented. I can't see any of the crossguard, so that doesn't help. I suppose that dust could obscure the color of the scabbard. Repair and modification might explain why the hilt and scabbard change from black to blue between The Hobbit films and The Lord of the Rings. But, damn, the angle does make the metalwork on the scabbard look wrong!

it makes Tauriel part of a culture rather than one on her own. Coming from a Tauriel-hater, I actually like this assessment. Back in the day I used to roleplay and my character was similar to Tauriel's because I too used women in the military so I really resented a random female for no apparent reason in these films. I still don't like her but I'm glad PJ at least followed through and made it a cultural thing for the Woodland Realm not just a politically correct Hollywood thing.
