Very Clever move about Bilbo and Frodo!

I love the fact that Bilbo was the one who resolve the moon riddle before the secret door of Erebor and pass the torch for riddles to Frodo who resolve the moon riddle of Moria. I think this explain the emphasis on Bilbo and that he have such a "key" role moment before the door.

... highlights the aspect that sometimes relatively "easy" things cannot be solved by big or wise leaders - not because they are stupid but because they think too complicated. It is something very often happening in our world, too. I know some people have felt Gandalf was portrayed as weak at the Gates of Moria. I never felt that. It took away some of the pompousness a character such as Gandalf easily can fall into for sure, though. For the dwarves it shows the problem of their whole approach - especially Thorin's. The sense of entitlement to the crown and the return to his rightful seat of rule and treasure, a seemingly failed promise the map offered. In the end it is his character that almost fails him, not the map. It is too much about his right and heritage... not enough about the practicality of the quest and what it claims or may claim. Bilbo brings in this attribute of thinking practically, realistically and grounded. A much better scene imho than many give it credit for.
"I am afraid it is only too likely to be true what you say about the critics and the public. I am dreading the publication for it will be impossible not to mind what is said. I have exposed my heart to be shot at." J.R.R. Tolkien We all have our hearts and minds one way or another invested in these books and movies. So we all mind and should show the necessary respect.
