Gah! [In reply to] Can't Post

I typed out a reply, and this computer decided to kick me out of the Internet right as I went to post it! Lost the post...ugh, I'll try to come back *again* later. Crazy

Commiserations [In reply to] Can't Post

as a fellow victim of 'pewter tantrums ... so now I usually do a copy onto Word before I hit the "Post Reply" button. If it acts up, I just spit out a few choice greetings, shake my fist at the damn thing and still be able to send up my reply without losing anything Cool

Fan of both books and movies; it seems I have severely misnamed myself... for the moment.

Heart Appreciating Thranduil, thread by thread: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII
(Tis true! More appreciation threads for Thranduil exist than ME movies)

Laugh Thrall Wars!: What business do Elves, Dwarves or Men(?) have with drooling thralls, yea, unto the slopes of Erebor? ... oh, yes, the Hobbit's lingering in some shadows, ever ready to swoop to the hairy rescue. Take cover if you dare!
Teh partsies: Prologue (aka the potato-mash of whatever came before), Two, Three

Bummer! [In reply to] Can't Post

I hate when that happens. MadFrown I've recently been using the same "precaution" as Lurker. Better safe than sorry. Smile

I think you're right about this... [In reply to] Can't Post

In several shots, however, it seems like they've added vertical layers and structures to the forest which would be more appropriate for Moria than Mirkwood. I see this more as a general penchant of PJ's design team rather than something which adds to the atmosphere or look of the forest.

It is a penchant for this design team. Think of Moria (as you mentioned), the caverns below Orthanc, and Lothlorien, and now Erebor, Mirkwood and Thranduil's Halls. I really like how they do this. It gives these landscapes a touch of the fantastical. I especially like the establishing shots of the Fellowship wandering the long deserted mineshafts and halls of Moria-- that was so much a part of what drew me into Middle-earth in that first film. And i thought what they did in expanding what we saw of Dol Guldur in the first Hobbit film for DoS was fantastic-- my favorite part of the film, really.
