~~~~~~ "… ever let your aim be to come at truth, not to conquer your opponent. So you never shall be at a loss in losing the argument, and gaining a new discovery.” Arthur Martine "nowimë I am in the West, Furincurunir to the Dwarves (or at least, to their best friend) and by other names in other lands. Mostly they just say 'Oh no it's him - look busy!' " Or "Hold off! unhand me, grey-beard loon!"
It is wonderful to see how each culture brings it's own take to the story. Loved the different depictions of Gollum. Interesting to see how big some of the illustrators make him. Liked the depictions of the Unexpected Party, especially the dwarves with their instruments. Smaug is well done too. Don't miss the naked dwarves in the series of illustrations for the Czech Republic.
Tove Jansson must have had a Dwarfish perspective since she made the Elves in the barrels scene look like they had horns (I suppose those were their ears?).
