- NO updated CGI,
- NO replaced shots,
- additional footage only as optional extras,
- And give us finally that BLOOPER reel!

On balance, I agree. I suppose what I was suggesting were changes that I suspect (a) may actually occur or (b) might just fall within many people's limits of tolerance.

And you're right about any remaining "additional footage"; there's no way it will ever be incorporated into the main body of the films at this stage. Shore has scored them twice already Crazy A nice portfolio of Deleted Scenes is what we'll get.

I really hope PJ takes this opportunity to film some content of Dain fighting at Erebor during the War of the Ring, besides Thranduil fighting in Mirkwood, and Galadriel utterly overthrowing Dol Guldur. Perhaps also some embellishment to the LOTR prologue showing Thranduil beside his father.

And I would love to see all that unused footage from the original LOTR shooting days such as Aragorn and Arwen's original meeting, Eowyn and Faramir's wedding, and the famed epilogue scenes.

Of course, it would be wonderful if Shore could write new music for all of this.

It would be unprecedented, but then isn't the entire phenomena of Middle-earth, both books and films, rather unprecedented?

I don't think I want any more making-ofs. I want some additional final content at this point Smile

Though I think the only way to appease fans would be to include the standard (TE or EE) versions of the films as well.

well... [In reply to] Can't Post

I guess what's truly inevitable is the replacement of Ian Holm in FOTR prologue.

And I would urge PJ to fix just the things that stands out badly in HD nowdays, (like very clear stunt doubles faces), and some Gollum shots where he looks almost like a cartoon compared to how he looks in The Hobbit films.

Maybe I'm just ignorant in this case [In reply to] Can't Post

But is it even possible for PJ to go back and alter the actual footage, like CGI and stunt double's faces? That film is pretty old at this point.

How many Tolkien fans does it take to change a light bulb?

as long as the budget for that allows it...

I guess WB may be more likely to fix the most evident errors, than actually updating CGI, specially in a character as complex technically as Gollum.

what I don't like about it is that when we have all six films in and watch them chronologically, the contrast between Gollums will be distractingly evident.

True [In reply to] Can't Post

But you'd have to take the original footage of Serkis in a mo-cap suit and redo all the CG, correct? I'd love to see it done, but that may be more work than is realistic. But then again, I'm no digital expert Wink.

As for your other ideas, it might be reasonable to expect it for the 20th anniversary, or maybe even the 15th. Guess it depends on Jackson's future plans.

I believe... [In reply to] Can't Post

...Warner has possession and ownership of all the original footage. Mainly in digital form on hard drives The equivalence of 6 million feet of film, or a little over 1100 hours.

I seem to remember that when New Line took possession of the footage Jackson expressed concern over whether it would be properly handled and stored to prevent damage and deterioration.

Obviously Warner would have the say in who, when, and if the movies are updated.
