Question with placing an image on the bottom of my profile? Can't Post

How do I do this and what is this called? Some of the users have a picture at the bottom of their post box that always shows up. An example would be Meneldor's ship image.

I have a walk through you can use [In reply to] Can't Post

see the link in my footer. (Torn Image Posting Guide)

If you have difficulties, come back here and ask for help.

If you need an image resized, I'll be around for awhile and I can resize it for you. The best thing to do is either PM me or check my profile for my email address and email me with that request.

For general help, posting here is the best bet since lots of people can help you even if I'm not at my computer.

I don't know why not [In reply to] Can't Post

Have you tried it?

What image do you want to use?

Do you have a place to 'store' it (a photobucket account or something like that)?

No I don't have a photobucket account. [In reply to] Can't Post

Is that necessary?

You'll need to host it on a website somewhere [In reply to] Can't Post

Photobucket is a good free choice. I've been using postimage.org lately, which will also allow you to host images without an account.

To help you out, I've resized and hosted the image on my own postimage account until you can get something set up. You can use Magpie's walkthrough and insert this URL: http://s26.postimg.org/vcvkjyr15/Tilda_daughter_of_Bard_the_bowman.jpg

before helping, I need to be clear... [In reply to] Can't Post

did you actually read my walk through and follow all the directions?

It sounds like you're just trying stuff to see if it works. :-) My instructions don't tell you to just copy the url into the portrait box.

The walk through was created when I was going through each step with people over and over again so it's kind of essential that you follow the directions in the walk through.

You're going to have to have/create an account at a place like Photobucket or the one Arwen's daughter recommended. You also have to use the image she resized. You can't use the big one you linked to.

If you want more suggestions about photo hosting, search google using these search terms: photo hosting sites that allow remote linking

for some reason, I'm having trouble connecting to sites today and none of the links google search gives me work.

Sorry for all the fuss [In reply to] Can't Post

I am just struggling with this. I have never done this before and I am not tech savvy. The instructions are not designed for an ipad so I guess I'll have to switch to a pc.

The basic directions should work for an iPad [In reply to] Can't Post

I just uploaded the image onto tinypics.

open a new tab

navigate back to the TORn Message boards in the new tab

click: Edit Profile (in Ring button at top of page)

click: User Profile (one of four links on the Edit Profile page)

In the box that says "Signature", paste this entire line of code just below:

Go to bottom of the page and click "Make Profile Changes"

Come back here and make a post to see if it works.

That should work.

I'll add something in a new post.

How to change your signature picture if you want to [In reply to] Can't Post

I used this site: http://tinypic.com/

to host the picture. It was ridiculously easy! (haven't used it before) I didn't need an account and I could move the image from one spot onto the web into this site (which means I didn't have to download it onto my computer first).

So as long as you have a small enough image, you can just upload it to tinypic. If you have trouble figuring out how to upload, you can ask here.

Once you upload it, they give you the four different kinds of code. You want the code that says: IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards

Copy the entire line and paste into your signature. (following the directions I just gave in my previous post or following the directions in my walk through)

If you're on an iPad, you're probably using the Safari browser which means you have basic editor for making posts. In that case, that line of code will also work for putting images in a post, as well.

Just remember, there are size limits for all images posted on the TORn Message Boards. The size limits are listed in the Terms of Service and in my walkthoughs.

hope that helps.
