Not entirely. [In reply to] Can't Post

The Third Age ended in TA 3021 (SR 1421). However, Tolkien seemingly contradicts himself on the beginning of the Fourth Age. In Appendix B (The Tale of Years) he begins it on March 13 in the reckoning of Gondor. But in Appendix D (The Calenders) the New Reckoning starts the Fourth Age on March 25, FA 1 (TA 3021). Is the entry in Appendix B a mistake on Tolkien's part or is it a typographical error?

Tolkien officially ended the Third Age on September 21, when the Ringbearers departed from Middle-earth; as far as the Hobbits were concerned, the Fourth Age began on 2 Yule, 1422. Shire Reckoning continued into the Fourth Age and probably for as long as the Shire endured.

'There are older and fouler things than Orcs in the deep places of the world.' - Gandalf the Grey, The Fellowship of the Ring
