From World's End then he turned away, and yearned again to find afar . his home through shadows journeying, and burning as an island star . . . -Bilbo Baggins

The umbrella glittered wet in answer. There was a ringing clash and a spray of fine raindrops. The Balrog fell back and its sword flew up in soggy fragments. Lobelia swayed on her doorstep, stepped back a pace, and then again stood still. "You cannot pass until you wipe your feet!" she said.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. Does Lobelia's umbrella have wings? I'll just stand back and watch the fireworks now.

Why, yes. What could be MORE important?

Lobelia's umbrella WAS a triple-use instrument. 1. It kept the Rain Giants off her head. 2. It was a great hidey-hole for silver spoons & various other goodies. 3. And not necessarily of primary import: It smacked Gothmog a heavy blow till he wiped off his dirty feet. Wings? Well, wasn't it Mary Poppins that flew with an umbrella? Just a spoon-full of sugar . . .
