AUJ Chapter of the Week (CHOW) Sign-up for March & April 2014! Can't Post

Chapter of the Week (CHOW) is an ongoing discussion on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. For the months of March and April, we have 8 CHOWs. Each host will make one thread each week on their chosen film chapter (ideally during the weekend - anytime between Friday to Sunday inclusive).

The weeks and chapters that need leaders are as follows:

21.Weekend of March 7th - Under Hill
1:49:11 - 1:54:01

22.Weekend of March 14th - The Goblin King
1:54:01 - 1:56:58

23.Weekend of March 21st - Riddles in the Dark
1:56:58 - 2:10:27

24.Weekend of March 28th - Gandalf Returns
2:10:27 - 2:12:26

25.Weekend of April 4th - Brass Buttons
2:12:26 - 2:13:37

26.Weekend of April 11th - Out of the Frying-Pan
2:13:37 - 2:17:59

27.Weekend of April 18th - Bilbo's Mercy
2:17:59 - 2:20:09

28.Weekend of April 25th - And Into the Fire
2:20:09 - 2:22:59

To avoid any confusion, the approximate start and end times are given.

Please do not post a CHOW thread unless you have already signed up, or notified cats16 or DanielLB first. We will return to the extended edition of the film in the future. In the meantime, all chapter titles refer to the theatrical version only. AUJ CHOW should finish sometime in May, and then we plan on going straight into DOS CHOW.

Volunteers choose their chapter on a first-come-first-serve basis, so get in there quickly if you want to host a particular chapter. If you have already hosted a CHOW, you are more than welcome to volunteer again, but be sure to give everyone an opportunity to host first. Just respond to this thread with which chapter you would like to host. If you miss this sign-up, don't worry! There are plenty of chapters left. If in doubt which chapter is which, consult your DVD (hopefully you own it, or PM either cats16 or DanielLB.)

Each person will be assigned a DVD chapter, seen above. For your chosen chapter, we will leave the discussion up to you! It really is an open book, so we don't want to restrict anyone. Some suggestions might be:

- The use of CGI in the scene (or even HFR, if you can remember what it was like)
- The score and the soundtrack
- The props, sets and landscapes in the scene
- The costumes we see in the film
- The actors and acting
- General scene setups
- Differences from book
- A comparison with animated film
- A comparison with The Lord of the Rings films

You can ask as little or as many questions as you like. Have fun, and enjoy!

You can also choose screencaps for your part, and we recommend this website. Magpie has provided an excellent tutorial in image posting on TORn that can be found here. Please also make sure all screencaps stay within TORn's Term of Service (see 2.20).

When posting your thread, please include "Chapter of the Week: [Insert Chapter Title Here]", so that they are easy to find on a rather fast moving board.

We hope you enjoy all the discussions.

Here are the links to the previous CHOW discussions:

1. Prologue
2. My Dear Frodo
3. Old Friends
4. An Unexpected Party
5. Dinner Time
6. Thorin Oakenshield
7. Bilbo's Choice
8. The Adventure Begins
9. The Battle of Moria
10. Radagast the Brown
11. The Trollshaws
12. Roast Mutton
13. A Troll Hoard
14. The Hill of Sorcery
15. Warg-scouts
16. The Hidden Valley
17. Moon Runes
18. The Defiler
19. The White Council
20. Over Hill

Thanks, everyone!

I think a lot of people will be interested in this chapter, for obvious reasons (or rather, reason--that being a gangly, slimy little creatureTongue).

Thanks to the three of you so far who have volunteered! Still five dates left for March and April!!

I wonder... [In reply to] Can't Post

Did the Goblin King steal the Talking Purse, perhaps? Maybe we'll see that scene in the inevitable Ultimate Edition of the films. Tongue

But yes, still plenty of spots left available! I could likely do this weekend if no one comes out, but please feel free to volunteer for it if you're interested!! I won't be upset. Cool

Can I have March 28th, please? [In reply to] Can't Post

I waited a little while longer to see if anyone new would sign up, but since they haven't, I don't mind hosting another one (I'll try to get some screencaps in this time, but no promises). I was also wondering if I can reserve the first chapter of DoS in advance (with Gandalf and Thorin in Bree)? I'll probably want to host the forest river chapter as well, since there's so much action in that particular sequence (and one of my favorite scenes of DoS).Smile

We must away, ere break of day

I can take the last one And Into Fire unless someone new wants to do it by then. Smile
