I thought at first it said "Anyone fancy a hot dwarf?" [In reply to] Can't Post

Oh you wicked woman Kel!!Evil Yes, this is rather nice- the artist is frighteningly talented. A nice selection on deviantart- I rather like "Willowtwig" (the picture on the far left of the calendar)BlushEvil

Is there a Tolkien topic that you have wanted to look into more deeply and write about your thoughts on it? If so, we'd like to hear from you for the next TORn Amateur Symposium- coming in November. Happy writing!

I don't think the bodies suit the faces, they look like centaurs from Narnia. [In reply to] Can't Post

Anyway the actors deserve better don't you? perhaps a Versace suit or an Armani T shirt with jeans or something like that. Cool

and i agree with the post above... somehow, the bodies don't fit the heads... they do look like centaurs or something.

aka. fili orc-enshield
+++++++++++++++++++
the scene, as i understand it, is exceptionally well-written. fili (in sort of a callback to the scene with the eagles), calls out "thorRIIIIIIN!!!" just as he sees the pale orc veer in for the kill. he picks up the severed arm of an orc which is lying on the ground, swings it up in desperation, effectively blocking the pale orc's blow. and thus, forever after, fili is known as "fili orc-enshield."

this earns him deep respect from his hard-to-please uncle. as well as a hug. kili wipes his boots on the pale orc's glory box. -- maciliel telpemairo

Why thank you! [In reply to] Can't Post

If you insist!

I can't believe I just found this. Off gallivanting lately in other parts of TORn.

But to be serious for a moment (No, really!)

This artist is quite young, in her early 20s I believe. She works digitally (using a tablet) and these are original drawings, not Photoshop. It is an emerging medium in Illustration that many of the younger artists use it for much of their work. Publishers like the ease of upload and the ability to modify images for different output - printed page, ebook, etc. It is as valid a medium as charcoal, pen and ink, oils or watercolor. This artist also works in traditional medium and takes commissions. I think she already has a strong sense of style and composition.

So while we may giggle over (and yes I giggled) or react in other ways to the subject matter, I think it is a mistake to dismiss her work. Remember, even the lads of the quest created their own dwarf calendar, from what I understand. This person is a talented, hard-working young artist just as John Howe and Alan Lee were once, back in the day.

*off my soap-box and back down to Earth... Middle Earth that is*

I've written and asked about a print for a friend of mine.... maybe two prints.... CrazyCool

P.S. When I first read this subject line I thought it said, "Anyone fancy a hot dwarf." Shocked Now is that a Freudian mistake or what?! Laugh

Had no idea how the work was done. Digitally by tablet - wow. I've used an Etch-a-Sketch. Does that count? Laugh
She does have a lovely choice of subject doesn't she?

But digital drawing can be done in Photoshop, too, not just photo-manipulations. Just sayin'. =)

And I agree with you, she is a talented young artist and has made some amazing images.

I basically posted this as a bit of light-hearted fun, there's been way too much seriousness in my RL lately that I felt the need for a giggle and hoped others did too.

Cheers Kel x

Laugh

Interesting what each of us notices in our contemplation... Crazy Blush

I have to say I was curious about what a dwarf actually looks like. It's not like we can go by the actors. Those muscle/fat suits need a lot of imagination to make them into true body types. I admit to being curious about the calendar they gave Peter, too. Knowing the incredible sense of humor these guys have, I bet it was hilarious! What a group this was - it must have been fun to go to work each day!

Yes, you can. [In reply to] Can't Post

But this particular artist does not work that way. I like to give credit where credit is due. Smile

The tablet she uses allows for much more control than you can get out of Photoshop also. I've watched my daughter use one. It is amazing the images she creates. Sometimes I cannot tell in an email if I'm looking at a scan of a traditional method (charcoal, ink, watercolor, oil) or digitally created. Her thesis advisor has encouraged her to use her tablet more because that is the way the business is going. She is working on her first commission for a children's book now.

I like this artist's images, regardless of the subject matter.... and because of the subject matter! CoolBlush

Oh, wow, Kel...I'm...I'm...speechless. And they're...shirtless. And that means we're both something-less, which clearly has profound significance if only I knew what it meant.

And to think I once insisted there was No Such Thing as Hot Dwarves!!!
