Coffee paintings! Can't Post

I thought I'd share the three coffee paintings I've made so far :) I got inspired by the very talented Jenny Dolfen ( http://gold-seven.deviantart.com/ ) who sometimes uses coffee as a a medium.

My style is much closer to photo realism, and I thought it would make a good challenge.

The first painting I made was of Bilbo. I simply used different strengths of instant coffee and water and painted like you would with water colours.

This is by far the most basic of my coffee portraits. I went all in on the next one, portraying Nori! :)

It's on size A4-paper. You can see the scale here: http://imgur.com/gallery/lQDMH
I was able to give this to Jed Brophy, the actor. I work at the Swedish SciFi-conventions, and he visited Helsingborg :)
Later he shared it on both Twitter and Facebook, I was incredibly happy ^^

Next up was Radagast. Sylvester McCoy came to the Stockholm-show last weekend, and I wanted to have another go at coffee painting.

Here's what it looked like when he received it: http://imgur.com/gallery/2NJWG

I want to make portraits of all the dwarves, and maybe some other characters. Hopefully I'll find the time soon!

Woah!! [In reply to] Can't Post

I am always impressed (and a little jealous of) those who have artistic skill. I see comments like 'early version', 'first attempt', 'humble drawing', random scribble',and I want to slap them up side their heads!!!! You are way better than I ever could be,so don't be at yourself down!

Rant over.Tongue

What do you do with these, and your other work? What inspires you? What is your favourite media and subject?

These would sell pretty well IMHO.

Call me Rem. Rembrethil is a lot to type!!

Very well done, but the images are oversized. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'll post below our image guidelines from TORN 201 - free free to resize your pics to these guidelines and post them again within this thread so that others can see them.

The specific guidelines for posting pictures within the message body of your post are as follows: the maximum size of any picture posted should be 525 wide x 400 pixels high (or a better measure is: 210,000 pixels squared - width x height), but no wider than 670 pixels. The maximum file size per picture should be 45k. The cumulative file size of all pictures in one post should not exceed 225k (5 pictures of the maximum filesize of 45k, 10 pictures of a filesize of 22.5k, etc.). These guidelnes apply to pictures hosted on other sites as well as to pictures posted as attachments to your post. For more detailed help on posting within a message body, check out Magpie's step-by-step TORn Image Posting Guide.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

I think you and I [In reply to] Can't Post

should get together and compare stick figure drawings. Tongue Like you, I'm quite envious of people who are so talented. Ah well, if I can't do it myself, at least I can admire and appreciate other people's creations.

Impressive! [In reply to] Can't Post

Maybe you'll revisit Bilbo after completing the dwarves. It'd be cool to see the difference, with the experience gain and all.

And I have to ask: do they continue to smell like coffee once they're completed and have sat about for a bit?

..The land of long-forgotten name:
......no man may ever anchor near;
..No steering star his hope may aim,
......for nether Night its marches drear,
..And waters wide no sail may tame,
......with shores encircled dark and sheer.

..O! Haven where my heart would be!
......the waves beat upon thy bar
..For ever echo endlessly,
......when longing leads thy thought afar

WOW [In reply to] Can't Post

Incredible work!! And I love your medium of choice! I've never done an entire painting with coffee, but I am in the middle of making Thorin's map and I stained it with coffee to make it look aged Smile you have an awesome talent!

Thank you very much! :) [In reply to] Can't Post

Well... The two last ones I gave away to the actors, like I said ^^ I don't usually sell paintings I've made, unless they are commissioned by people. But I'm thinking of producing more to sell.

My favourite subject are portraits like the ones shown here, or fire portraits such as these: http://imgur.com/a/L1DyE
Acrylics is my favourite media. I used to do more oil work, but acrylics is so much more convenient. I hope to do some more oil in the future :)

Perhaps! [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah, I probably will. But the I might pick another scene ;)

The first one doesn't smell at all. You can still smell it somewhat on Nori and Radagast, but only on the darker spots. I think it will keep fading, just like the colour itself. It needs to be kept out of direct sunlight :P

Sylvester McCoy looks really, really, really happy. [In reply to] Can't Post

Bowled over might be the right word if i spelled it right.

Again Kotte, you are fabulous! :)

" 'Fair lady Goldberry!' said Frodo at last, feeling his heart move with a joy that he did not understand. He stood as he had at times stood enchanted by fair elven-voices; but the spell that was now laid upon him was different: less keen and lofty was the delight, but deeper and nearer to mortal heart; marvellous and yet not strange."

Chapter VII: In the House of Tom Bombadil; FOTR's

Faerie contains many things besides elves and fays and besides dwarfs, witches, trolls, giants or dragons; it holds the seas, the sun, the moon, the sky; and the earth, and all things that are one in it: tree and bird, water and stone, wine and bread, and ourselves, mortal men, when we are enchanted."
— J.R.R. Tolkien
