My daughter [In reply to] Can't Post

had trouble with squirrel when she was little. She spoke at an early age and spoke well but squirrel had her stumped until she was 7 or 8 years old. It was a family joke to pronounce it like she did.

Squirrel is a funny one. [In reply to] Can't Post

I've been practicing the/one Kiwi variation, skwi-ruhl, compared to my one syllable skwurl. Googling I found varieties reported as skwerl, skwirl, skueer-el, skwoe-rel, skuare-al, skwur-il, skwer-ryl. Love it! What a weird word! Laugh
What was your daughter's choice?
Anybody else have one?

The first one [In reply to] Can't Post

Looks like what my daughter said but she also used some of the other ones over the years. It was a work in progress, lol.

I never knew there were so many options [In reply to] Can't Post

I've always pronounced it "skwurl" one syllable. I've only recently heard the two syllable "skwi-ruhl" (like the trolls in AUJ), so that sounds funny to me. Tongue
