Marching Band Movie Music Can't Post

This is pretty awesome and I was already considering (during the first three minutes of watching) posting it on Off Topic because I know at least N.E. Brigand likes marching band formation stuff. Then I realized it didn't need to go on Off Topic at all. :-)

ps: I was in marching band and this stuff is hard!

I used to live in downtown East Lansing, home of the Michigan State Spartans. Game day between MSU and OSU was always intense. :-)

That was really fun! [In reply to] Can't Post

Loved the Golden Snitch! Took me a minute to catch the LOTR reference (missed what the announcer said as intro).

I was in regular band and had a hard enough time with just sitting there playing, much less having to walk/march at the same time! Laugh

Hubby and I met at Case Western Reserve Univ [In reply to] Can't Post

But there was always someone driving down to OSU from Cleveland for game day. The OSU band director came to his high school and did some workshops with the brass. They not only *look* good, they *sound* good!

Let's here it for Rust Belt gals! Cool

Love it!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

I wasn't in band, but I come from a town that has had a top band for more than thirty years. And my sisters three kids were all in their high school band and I went to all of their marching competitions. Band kids rule!!!

This was awesome. But did you see last week's show? They did a tribute to Michael Jackson - a giant moonwalking Michael and all. Smile

I did see the Michael Jackson routine [In reply to] Can't Post

NEB also sent me a link in response to a link I sent him. I wonder what the bands were for those.

amuse yourself while I go find those links.

My link was to Ohio University (which is not the same as Ohio State).

(NEB was the person who first posted The Fox video by Ylvis)

He responded with an animated gif by Carolina Crown's marching band. I can't find a video off hand.

That was entirely filled with pure awesomeness! // [In reply to] Can't Post

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville

OSU does LOTR! [In reply to] Can't Post

Glad to see you posted this. Although I know drum corps fans who would argue that TBDBITL isn't even the best in Columbus, much less Ohio, much less TL.

OSU's Michael Jackson show was a lot of fun. [In reply to] Can't Post

So was this 2011 Michael Jackson show by the Empire Statesmen drum corps, which took third place at DCA Finals. (DCA is essentially weekend-warrior drum corps for adults, as opposed to DCI, in which young people devote their entire summer, all day every day for ten weeks, to perfecting the performance.)

People who enjoyed the pirate section of OSU's Hollywood show might like to seek out Madison Scouts' 1997 show, "The Pirates of Lake Mendota". This clip only hints at the energy in the stadium that night.

"Impossible, you say?" [In reply to] Can't Post

On general principle, I'm opposed to amplification and electronics in marching band and drum corps, but I still loved Carolina Crown's 2013 show, "E=mc2", which won them their first (World Class) championship. The narration is adapted from Philip Glass's opera, Einstein on the Beach. Incredible physical demands, and perhaps the best brass line ever. This video of their "victory run" is a bit rough and the camera is too low to show the forms clearly, but it conveys very well the excitement in Indianapolis that night.
