Will there be a Complete Recordings of The Hobbit soundtrack? Can't Post

Hey guys!
I've noticed there's some music from An Unexpected Party that's not on the soundtrack (Deluxe edition). I was wondering if anyone has heard anything regarding a Complete Recordings edition like what Lord of the Rings had.

I would expect there will be. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd be shocked and disappointed if there wasn't. I listen to my LOTR ones all the time. So I'd like the same chance for The Hobbit as well.

Check out... [In reply to] Can't Post

... the recent Doug Adams' Q&A thread

Obligatory complete recordings question. (P.S. Obviously really love the Special Edition!). Hope you're well, Doug.

There's no Complete Recordings in the works right now, but IF it happens, I wouldn't imagine it would happen until after film 3.

In a recent thread... [In reply to] Can't Post

A poster included a Q&A that Doug Adams did on Twitter recently (thread located here). He addresses your question on the CR at one point:

Obligatory complete recordings question. (P.S. Obviously really love the Special Edition!). Hope you're well, Doug.

Thanks for the reply! Now that I recall, didn't all the CRs come out once the LOTR trilogy was done? Makes more sense then.

Yes, the LOTR CRs began in '04.

So I would think that--even if they do happen--there is a long road to go before then. Once Shore is finished doing TABA's score next year, we'll have all of the music from the films (meaning that they will have actually been composed). Then the movie will come out, and we'll know how PJ incorporated it into the film. Then the EE is out in '15, using a little more.

My guess would be either a 2015 or 2016 start for the CRs. Perhaps someone more up-to-date on these things (if Doug sees this, or Magpie) could clarify/correct my thoughts.

Edit: Ah, I see that Eleniel had the same quote in mind. Wink

Are they viable? [In reply to] Can't Post

There isn't a lot of material from the first film we don't have - I'd say 45-50 minutes tops. But there's bigger questions to be asked. Do they stick with Shore's original vision, or that of the film? We can be pretty sure also that there's some edits to the album - evidence suggests that Shore's original composition for the opening Bilbo scene was edited out of the soundtrack, and changed to a rendition of 'Gandalf's Farewells' in the film. So do they go with Shore's original piece or the film piece? I'd love both in this case.

Since we are recieving very comprehensive 2-disc editions which we didn't get for the LOTR films, and these films are shorter, I wonder if it might be better to just release additional 2-disc releases - 1 disc for the unreleased music for the film, and the other to showcase some rarities, alternates and full compositions in line with Shore's original ideas (2 discs for this would be fantastic though). This is my idea for now at least. It might change with DoS and TABA, but we'll see.

What I recall [In reply to] Can't Post

- The Eagles theme not present on the deluxe soundtrack
- Goblin town
- Torture song (Goblins)
- Flaming red hair - The Hobbit version (I wonder if it was a re-recording and not just reused version)
- Man in the moon

I'm thinking [In reply to] Can't Post

- Opening music for Bilbo scene prior to flashback, and up to the reveal of Erebor
- Various slight changes in the prologue (microedit to Erebor theme when Thror's on the battlements, slight difference prior to Arkenstone reveal, different music for Thorin's charge, different ending)
- Unexpected party, when the Dwarves begin raiding the pantry
- Thorin and Balin discussion in Bag End
- Gandalf's theme without the choral parts, new Radagast the Brown music
- Gandalf and Thorin's argument (Gandalf's two themes as he departs)
- First appearance of the Wargs (really want this piece)
- Possibly the Radagast Warg chase (there may be some additional sections here to replace the Radagast material, but I'm not sure if it's just tracked)
- Bofur's 'Man in the Moon' song
- Howard Shore's 'Valley of Imladris'
- Misty Mountains theme after Bilbo and Bofur's discussion
- 'Down to Goblintown'
- Additional music for the first appearance before the Goblin-king (this might be TE only now)
- Arrival of Gandalf/Misty Mountains
- Full escape from Goblintown with Misty Mountain cue
- Misty Mountains theme after Bilbo's speech
- New music for 'Out of the Frying Pan' sequence (throwing of pinecones, Nazgul music, aftermath, Misty Mountains reprise)
- Entire Eagles sequence
- Carrock scene (I really want the version of Thorin's theme played here)
- Stripped down film version of 'Song of the Lonely Mountain' with the Misty Mountains music lead-in

I think that's most of the major stuff, apologies if I'd left something out. I think somehow over at JWFan worked out how much unreleased material appears in the films. I suppose it depends how they present it as to how many discs we'd need.

The complete recordings were amazing [In reply to] Can't Post

I would love if this happens. I think it will, there's enough box office and interest in Howard Shore's work.

I'd rather they wait [In reply to] Can't Post

Since we're getting so much music already, I'd almost rather have them wait till all three films are done, then release everything (complete scores and Doug Adams' analytical book) all at once.

yes [In reply to] Can't Post

I think they'll probably wait until all of the films are released. Hopefully Adams comes out with a book for these as well.

For those of us who are book, film and score fans this gives us an extra few years of looking forward to something. Smile
