I will certainly take a look on these essays.

I agree with you Eldorion. The Hobbit is indeed younger brother of the Lord of the Rings and since we have many similarities between them, it wouldn't surprised me if also characters would have some resemblance. After all, if you create a great character like in Thorin in the Hobbit, why not use some of his traits again in the other person and other book. That could work great and it is.

Though I don't see much resemblance between Thorin and Aragorn I believe I know from where came that idea. They are both leaders and have similar role in the Fellowship/ the Company although their personality is very different and cannot be compared like in case of Thorin and Boromir.
