A TV Series Based On Lord Of The Rings Can't Post

That will obviously not affect the outcome of the The Hobbit or the Trilogy...

Who would you put that Tolkien did not extensively write about? Would you prefer that the series be based on the appendices or unfinished tales where they bring these stories to life without twisting the results, even if they make up characters?

would you prefer it is another off adventure that only Radagast, and the other Two Blue Wizards (maybe even Galadriel as she's been around quite a while) be in some other land or place that Tolkien never mentioned..

Arnor [In reply to] Can't Post

The only point in the history of Middle Earth that I could see as TV friendly without destroying continuity wuold be to go back to the time of Arnor and the Kings of the North. Yoou would have the Witch King as the evil dude and all of Aragorn's ancestors to battle him and the breakup of the realms. Elrond, Galadriel, and hobbits would still be in play, but there is room there for new ideas that woudn't conflict with any Silmarilion, Hobbit, or LotR storylines.

'There is some woe that lies upon you... Why will you not tell me more?'
'For that woe is past,' said Galadriel; 'and I would take what joy is here left, untroubled by memory. And maybe there is woe enough yet to come, thought still hope may seem bright.'

It would be Fan Fiction [In reply to] Can't Post

But I could see a 2nd Age TV series. Numenor and the Downfall of the Land of the Star and then on to Middle Earth for the realms in exile.

Sea Trek [In reply to] Can't Post

The sea. The new frontier. These are the voyages of the sailing ship Numenor, her five year adventure: to explore strange new lands, to seek out new creatures and new kingdoms, to boldly go where no man, elf, dwarf, or hobbit has gone before. And to occasionally split an infinitive.

They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the deep.

Main Role [In reply to] Can't Post

And what do you think should be the main character?

An Elf
An dwarf
A human
An orc?

Silmarillion [In reply to] Can't Post

I do not know where I heard or read it first, but a showtime or HBO series of the Quenta Silmarillion is something I'd love to see and probably the best venue to bring this to life. The individual tales cover so much that each individual story would need a trilogy to flush out. A several season show with each season dedicated to a chapter or specific chapters of the Quenta Silmarillion could be great. This of course comes with the caveat or the rights of the works, the Tolkien estate, as well as the necessity of a trusted team of writers to flush out story lines and dialogue that Tolkien did not provide.

The reason I saw HBO or Showtime as a likely venue is because these services have the budget for something like this and the stomach for the content that would be in a Silmarillion series.

Faramir: I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.

The Silmarillian would make a great TV series! [In reply to] Can't Post

Too bad it would never happen though.

Hmmmm...... [In reply to] Can't Post

Drogo Baggins and Primula Brandybuck drown in the Brandywine. Was it an accident? Double suicide? Or murder? Bilbo Baggins is on the case! He consults with Farmer Maggot, who just happens to have Tom Bombadil as a guest. The three set out to solve what darkness has intruded into the Shire.

What is the secret of the Sandyman mill?

Who really stole the mushrooms?

Is Gerontius Took *really* dead?

Whatever are the Sackville-Bagginses up to?

What about those rumours of walking trees?

And who is that mysterious dark grungy figure that slipped over the garden wall?

Watch "Lord of the Rings: The Mysterious Affair at Smials" to find out!

I met a Balrog on the stair,
He had some wings that weren't there.
They weren't there again today,
I wish he would just fly away.

would love to see more of middle earth [In reply to] Can't Post

preferably in a way that would mesh well (not necessarily replicate) jackson's vision of middle earth.

lots of possibilities...

the northern kingdoms
the fourth age
the northern wars of the dwarves, lothlorien, humans while rohan and gondor fought their fights
the mouth of sauron in the south and the east
and one of the best...

the grey havens!!!! let's really see them and get to know cirdan. hey, while we're at it, we could get to know glorfindel.

aka. fili orc-enshield
the scene, as i understand it, is exceptionally well-written. fili (in sort of a callback to the scene with the eagles), calls out "thorRIIIIIIN!!!" just as he sees the pale orc veer in for the kill. he picks up the severed arm of an orc which is lying on the ground, swings it up in desperation, effectively blocking the pale orc's blow. and thus, forever after, fili is known as "fili orc-enshield."

this earns him deep respect from his hard-to-please uncle. as well as a hug. kili wipes his boots on the pale orc's glory box. -- maciliel telpemairo
