Dwarves vs Smaug Spoilers! Can't Post

Looking back at the production blogs I found something that is possible the battle Pj mentioned in his interview with Empire. In Blog 11 look at 1:55. The dwarves are in Erebor and they are looking scared. They are looking at sth much taller than them and there is something like fire. What's your opinion? Is it the dwarves vs Smaug battle?

From the interview... [In reply to] Can't Post

I can recall Peter (or Fran) mentioned they always felt a lack of a real battle between dwarbes and Smaug. I don't have any ideas of their possible battle or whatever it is.

I just hope that when/if they show it [In reply to] Can't Post

It will depict how chanceless the dwarfes are and how magnificent Smaug is! Anything else will be kinda weird. Smaug needs to fall cause of his arrogance not because a hero challenges him.

I doubt [In reply to] Can't Post

that this will happen because Smaug would kill them in a second. The dwarves will be in Erebor indeed but it would be a suicide for them to facing Smaug but they will be still enough close to him to look scary so I believe this production blogs aren't so wrong after all.

Hmmm [In reply to] Can't Post

The moments before they retreat inside the door is the only place where they might actually see him in the sky. That's pretty scary in itself.

No. [In reply to] Can't Post

In a poor quality Hollywood style film cough Transformers cough the director would decide that the dwarves needed an action-packed role in Smaug's demise. That particular type of director cough Michael Bay cough would therefore have the dwarves ingeniously battling Smaug in some way and injuring him, such that it becomes possible for Bard to finish him off with an arrow during the battle at Laketown.

Peter Jackson will not do this: despite what some detractors claim, he has successfully resisted duck a l'orange and should therefore have no trouble resisting this particular type of ludicrosity.

27 posts to go and I get to see Caty Blanchett up a tree.

PS. Incidentally this:

is brilliant, but play with it responsibly.

I am sure... [In reply to] Can't Post

... that what in the book is described as Smaug burning the mountain-side might be the finale on the Erebor-storyline in DoS with the dwarves almost getting killed (hopefully some hurt) by the rage of Smaug who, however, before finishing them (they might retreat into the mountain) decides to destroy Laketown which he blames for the intrusion.

A dragon is no idle fancy. Whatever may be his origins, in fact or invention, the dragon in legend is a potent creation of mens imagination, richer in significance than his barrow is in gold. J.R.R. Tolkien

Words of wisdom that should be remembered - both by critics, purists and anyone in between.
