Hobbit Production Diary 5 observation/theory... Can't Post

So this may be beating a proverbial dead horse but I never really took notice of this before now. Apologies if someone else has already pointed this out.

There is a production assistant from the makeup department assisting Sir Ian McKellen in this particular setup. If you look in the background, you can clearly see the Dragon firework that was used at Bilbo's 111th birthday party in the Fellowship of the Ring.

So perhaps in the Desolation of Smaug (or There and Back Again) the movie will pick up with a flash forward to that and will then flash back to the time of The Hobbit? Or maybe that scene will be how There and Back Again will end and connect us to the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy?

Maybe Gandalf liked using that particular firework but it seems like it has to have some kind of connection to LOTR.

Please beat me with soft pillows if this has already been talked about. Smile

That scene [In reply to] Can't Post

is supposedly a depiction of the Old Took's party (remember Bilbo talking about Gandalf's fireworks during "Good Morning") from Bilbo's childhood. The scene was suggested by Ian McKellen himself, to show when and how Gandalf first met Bilbo. It is mainly rumored to be in the Extended Edition, and apparently of one Andy Serkis' children plays young Bilbo. Thus it would seem to be a flashback, not a flash forward to A Long Expected Party.

Don't mess with my favorite female elf.

Ah... that's right. [In reply to] Can't Post

I forgot about that.... I think the Dragon firework sticking out of the cart is what caught my eye. Must be one of Gandalf's favorites.
