DOS score currently being recorded in Wellington Can't Post

Ran across this yesterday in the local news. I had to giggle: only in NZ could a Town Hall be taken over by top-secret symphony recordings, causing among other things what sounds like a major inconvenience to the mayor! But I was also interested to find out the score isn't being recorded in London. Is this the first time recordings have been done in Wellington, or did I just miss it with the scores for AUJ and LOTR?

The [In reply to] Can't Post

whole Moria sequence was recorded by the NZSO, so was The Breaking of the Fellowship (though it was revised and re-recorded for the film and OST's)

King Kong? [In reply to] Can't Post

As I recall, the NZ Symphony recorded Howard Shore's score for King Kong, which Jackson discarded and replaced at the last minute, breaking some hearts, I'm sure.

The bit about the earthquake strengthening is interesting. I was fascinated by our tour of the part of the capitol whose entire foundations were replaced. Are they going to do a similar job on the City Hall?

Earthquake strengthening [In reply to] Can't Post

is taking place around NZ as a result of lessons learned from the Canterbury earthquakes, with all public buildings having to be assessed against the new building standards for earthquake resistence. In my region (Taranaki), any building that meets less than 33 per cent of the NBS must be strengthened and the owners of buildings with an NBS of 34-66 per cent are encouraged to strengthen them. I don't know if those percentages are consistent around the country.

Currently our art gallery and opera house complex are closed for strengthening, and one wing of the Civic Centre will need to be strengthened.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauronís master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.
