women are not children [In reply to] Can't Post

But PJ had the women and children in the caves at Helm's Deep to raise the stakes of the battle, so he had to so something with them. Not necessary and a bit awkward, IMO, but there you go. At least he deleted the subplot about the Edoras kids' mother (Morwen was it?) giving birth.

Regardless, the women of Tolkien's Rohan and the women of any of his societies were not usually warriors.

This is getting kind of far from Bard and his three adorableWink childrem so I'll shut up now.

My point was that grown women >>> young boys whose voices haven't even changed yet and who also clearly had very little to NO training with weapons. Eowyn had also previously uttered the lines about the survival skills of Rohan women.

I don't mind that their scared, everyone should be scared. The young boy and non-warrior conscripts were scared too. My problem was they were portrayed as just sitting their weeping.

Couldn't they at least pick up some bloody rocks or something so it didn't look like they were just going to lay down and die. Look like they were going to at least make some sort of token attempt to protect the children they had with them, isn't that what mothers are supposed to do? Do anything to protect their children? Wield some kitchen knives? Just show them doing SOMETHING?

If he had them in the caves, then IMO, it doesn't up the emotional stakes to just have them there crying. It would have been even more emotional to see some signs that these women stuck in these caves with the very small children weren't children themselves and were in whatever way they could going to try and defend them if if it was only with rocks and knives.
