Translations please? Can't Post

In AUJ during Balin's flashback to the battle of Moria. when Azog first sees Thror he says "Gorga" in the black speech I'm assuming, Does anyone know what this means I thought it meant "Dwarf" or "King" or even "You" I don't know why it bugs me so much but it does lol

And in the same scene, after Thorin cuts off Azog's hand and he rallies the dwarf army he is shouting something in Dwarvish I've heard that he was saying the dwarven battle cry "Baruk Khazd! Khazd ai-mnu" but I really don't think that's what he's saying I just don't hear any of those words.

I cannot say what Azog said, however Thorin says Du Bekar! which means To Arms! In Khuzdul.

Hope that helps Smile

Tauriel (as her hair catches during BO5A)- Ah, now I understand why you keep your beard so short, master Kili!
Kili: Um, because it grows slowly? (glares at her for perceived insult)
Tauriel: Because your arrows don't get tangled in your *^%*(^$%* beard every time you shoot! (more curses as it gets further tangled)
Kili: Um, YEAH! That's it! That's why I keep my beard short! (strides off triumphantly with a huge grin on his face, still shooting arrows as the cursing and tangles continues behind him)

Tauriel keeps fighting the tangles on the battlefield long after Dain takes the throne and Dale is rebuilt. Frodo takes the ring to Morder and once Sauron is defeated she FINALLY gets the last arrow out.

Orcish speech of Azog [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't know what he said in the battle scene, but if it sounded like "gorga" then it was not "dwarf". That word appears in subtitled scenes of the film in which the Orcs speak among themselves, and sounds something like "khazdayeen" (and so seems to be based on the Dwarves' own word for themselves.

The one Tokien word that "gorga" does remind me of is "gorgun", which is what Ghan-buri-Ghan (in the LotR books) calls orcs.

You might like to look at these sites: [In reply to] Can't Post

1. www.elendilion.pl
2. Fan Transcript of The Hobbit AUJ

These sites are good if you want to know the translations of the Middle Earth languages in the films.

However, what is said by Azog when he first sees Thror does not seem to have been translated anywhere that I can find. I would assume though it was some sort of battle cry to issue his challenge before he attacked - Azog may be known by other names in the Black Speech but we are not told. He could be calling his name, the same way in other stories the characters sometimes cry out their names before engaging in a fight.

Hope this helps.

What's this? A Ranger caught off his guard?

I also recommend David Salo's blog [In reply to] Can't Post

For most of your questions, the relevant links/answers have already been provided in other posts in this thread. But I thought I would also direct you to the blog of David Salo (the Tolkien language translator for PJ's films). Check it out here!

I'm also curious regarding Azog's cry during the Moria battle, I don't think it's been translated anywhere. Perhaps Mr Salo would know? Smile
