What if..... Can't Post

1. John Huston had tried out for the role of Gandalf?

2. Brother Theodore had tried out for the role of Gollum?

Think that would have given Peter some consternation?

p.s. I like all the above!

I doubt it [In reply to] Can't Post

Because although Huston and Theodore are good, McKellen and Serkis are far, far better in the roles, in my opinion.

well... [In reply to] Can't Post

Br. Theodore did a nice job vocally, I thought.

Huston was a fine director but the memory of his wooden delivery as Gandalf is indelibly etched upon my memory. Without trying I can recall the scene toward the end of TH:

"your-story-has-the ring-of truth-yes-it-RINGS-true..."

It would absolutely freak him out! [In reply to] Can't Post

Since both of them are dead.Wink

(Then again, he'd probably go "LOTR as a zombie movie? Why didn't I think of that earlier? This will ROCK!")

I've always preferred John Huston's voice as Gandalf., and I bet the visual would be fantastic. (He's so pointy, like Gandalf, as opposed to McKellen's roundness, unlike Gandalf.)

And Brother Theodore as Gollum is genius! Kudos!

Once Gandalf dreamt he was a moth, a moth flitting and fluttering around, happy with himself and doing as he pleased. He didn't know he was Gandalf. Suddenly he woke up and there he was, solid and unmistakably Gandalf. But he didn't know if he was Gandalf who had dreamt he was a moth, or a moth dreaming he was Gandalf. Between Gandalf and a moth there must be some distinction! But really, there isn't, because he's actually Olórin dreaming he's both Gandalf *and* a moth!

Another dead but awesome Gandalf... [In reply to] Can't Post

was Michael Hordern. He had the perfect voice in the BBC radio adaptation. And he was a great actor, too.
