Elros in the hobbit(lake town) Can't Post

Elros was cast in the hobbit. While we know how this is not elronds mortal brother who died thousands of years ago, before these events. I remember this topic being brought up before a while ago, and someone stating that pj said he was including this character as homage to the original elros. The whole point of this topic was to figure out if that was true, which I think it is. What is the source for this, though?

You can read the story here. However, it is very speculative. A search of the forum doesn't seem to help much, in terms of facts.

Naming your Elven child as "Elros" seems somehow disrespectful [In reply to] Can't Post

But then again, apparently "Argon" became a popular kids name after the original one died and haven't heard of the Fingolfians complaining about it, so perhaps it's not too much out there.
