Not I. [In reply to] Can't Post

I read the books first, and while very young (I was 7 when I read the Fellowship) and I was not a big book crier at the time. More likely to be flipping the page to find out what happened next, I guess.

And while I consider the scene in the film well done, the dramatic build-up to the confrontation, with the scenes betwee Frodo and gandalf and the added suspense of the falling stair scene, McKellen's wonderful performance as Gandalf facing the Balrog, the reactions to the others of the Company, it is not one of the scenes that gets to me enough to make me cry. In FotR, only Boromir's death scene does (I thought the change of having Boromir and Aragorn speak in this scene was brilliant, "My brother, my captain, my king" gets me every time!).

It may also be about who my favorite character is. I love Sam the most, he is my second favorite character from anything I have read or seen. So the scene that invariably slays me, book or movie, is the Grey Havens. I've never read that scene, and not cried - and these are books I have read 30-40 times. Same with the movie scene.

Please... I tear up at the theme music! [In reply to] Can't Post

I cried when Gandalf fell, even tho I knew it was going to happen. I cried when he came back, I cried when Bilbo narrated "in a whole in the ground there lived a hobbit"... oh hang it, I cried at the theme for the latest Star Trek. Time for therapy. Tongue

I will not say, do not weep, for not all tears are an evil. ;-) // [In reply to] Can't Post
