concerning hobbits? Can't Post

can't help but wonder what would have happened if they had done the hobbit before lotr, would Bilbo's prologue from AUJ just been about hobbits, no erebor & dwarf aetiology?

it would have been both, about hobbits, Erebor and the dwarves. The bit about him telling Frodo about it would be different.

Definitely a bit of both since we wouldn't have had the necessary introduction to hobbits as in The Lord of the Rings ... plus the audience would still need a thorough introduction to Erebor and all
