Same here [In reply to] Can't Post

That would be a mighty epic scene if they go for it! And either way, excited to hear more on the Necromancer for sure.

That isn't what bothers me. That part would be true to the Appendices, even if not to the stand alone [In reply to] Can't Post

novel. Bilbo knows nothing of Necromancers and Great Rings, but in the broader legendarium, Gandalf knew quite alot about both, and he was extremely afraid at this peiod in Time that Sauron was going to launch a devestating attack against the inland havens of the Elves before he cold move The Council to interrupt the Enemy's designs with a preemptive assault of their own.

I had no real problem with that being brought in, and looked forward to how it might be developed. Yet some of my fears (not all, but some) are being realized in the way it is playing out. . . The Wizards have no idea of what or who is in Dol Guldur (save that Gandalf seems to strongly suspect even before there is evidence. . . . indeed, he has to if he has long worried about the Dragon and The Enemy ???), Galadriel is the CEO of a very small council and evidently directs the actions of Wizards now. . . I hope the threat of Sauron to The Elves is clear to Gandalf and is strongly relayed by him.. . but we shall see.

The Council/Necromancer material being used never bothered me. . . the possibility of it being badly misrepresented. . . well, it "concerns me deeply. I am not convinced, I do not think I can condone. . ."

I've never claimed otherwise, so like you I am interested to see how it plays out. Wink

The problem I have with it though is Jackson doesn't know when to stop. He has to go OTT and in your face without any subtlety. All connections between the Necromancer and Sauron should be very subtle and left up to the viewers to make their own conclusions. But given Peter Jackson's track record with his depiction of the ring so far, he will most assuredly force the audience to know every minute detail in some way that Tolkien probably would not be proud of. Unsure

"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!"

"Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."
