Empire Awards Can't Post

The Jameson Empire Awards take place in London this evening, with The Hobbit nominated in several categories including Best Director, Best SciFi/Fantasy Film, Best Actor and Best overall Film. Martin Freeman is on the list of attendees and I expect there will be a number of others risking frostbite to go along (the weather is even worse than it was for the BAFTAS) .

There is a live stream of the red (or maybe white!) carpet and the awards here from around 4o' clock UK time:

He is currently filming Sherlock, so I doubt it. [In reply to] Can't Post

And I'm secretly hoping that PJ has flown them all back to New Zealand for this preview event.

Cool

Yeah. [In reply to] Can't Post

Don't know if they are filming today though. They've been in Cardiff all last week.

The Hobbit wins best fantasy film [In reply to] Can't Post

Ian McKellen picked up the award and gave a shout out to Martin and Adam, who were both in the room. Martin was also interviewed beforehand and confirmed he is going out in late May for more Hobbit. He was asked if he knew what happens in the Battle of Five Armies, but he said he honestly doesn't as he hasn't seen a script and feels it is impertinent to ask.

Oh and he said the first week on Sherlock has been effing brilliant ... he is trying to cut down on swearing!

Here's a picture [In reply to] Can't Post

Martin dedicated his award to Eric Yardley, his mentor at the youth theatre where he first acted as a teenager, who died last year.

From what he said in the interview beforehand, I don't think he expected to beat Daniel Day -Lewis et al, but then it's the fans who vote in this one, not the critics.
