What about. [In reply to] Can't Post

What Gandalf says in the appendices about if it wasn't for Thorin and company, Sauron would have used Smaug as part of his forces and that as a result, the War of The Ring and it's destruction in Mount Doom, and the defeat of Sauron would not have been possible.

Apologies I don't have the book easily to hand or know the exact quote but I expect someone here does.Cool

It fits canon, and finishing this series of films with a direct Tolkien quote that ties in the two trilogies seems to be both apt and appropriate providing the film makes own the rights.

Here is the entire paragraph... [In reply to] Can't Post

'Yet things might have gone far otherwise and far worse. When you think of the great Battle of the Pelennor, do not forget the battles in Dale and the valour of Durin's Folk. Think of what might have been. Dragon-fire and savage swords in Eriador, night in Rivendell. There might be no Queen in Gondor. We might now hope to return from the victory here only to ruin and ash. But that has been averted - because I met Thorin Oakenshield one evening on the edge of spring in Bree. A chance-meeting, as we say in Middle-earth.'

Thank you [In reply to] Can't Post

It would be perfect if TABA ended with a blank screen and those words narrated by Gandalf.
