"Sad" is an understatement <book spoilers> [In reply to] Can't Post

I'll be crying my eyes out for weeks after Thorin dies.

"You think you world is safe? It is an illusion. A comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace. For I have returned to have my vengeance. So, shall we begin? " - John Harrison/Khan/Sherlock/Smaug (Star Trek: Into Darkness)

We weren't expecting Thorin to look good [In reply to] Can't Post

Actually when I saw the Klingon-type picture I though he looked quite good, becoz the picture we had of Thorin before Armitage wasn't exactly a young hadsome dwarf.

My image of Thorin was a old dwarf not handsome at all.

And the Klingon-type picture isn't the very first picture of Armitage asThorin, we can see a bit of him on the background of an early picture where Bilbo is reading the contract and that was the first image I had of Thorin, very very dwarvish. A very terrible picture of him as well.. To our eyes now, but not then.

"Dear friend good bye, no tears in my eyes. So sad it ends, as it began"

Purely anecdotal -- [In reply to] Can't Post

What I noticed is the buzz among people I perceived to be casual fans of LOTR was almost exclusively positive. I overheard many glowing conversations among people I could tell were not all that familiar with the books, the film's development and so on.

It is fair to say, I think, that even though reaction has been mostly positive across the board, we were more likely to hear constructive tending to negative critique among uber fans than among the general population.

True, of course. [In reply to] Can't Post

But websites such as IMDB and Cinescore indicate that a vast majority of people going to this kind of sites also liked it (80% and more). And I guess those are not only uber-fans.

Been there and admit to that [In reply to] Can't Post

I finally came around myself last week. Glad I did.Crazy

While AUJ is not my favorite film, it is my favorite of Jackson's work and up there in my favorite fantasy films. So even a not quite old bersherker can open her mind and say bugger off to the haters.
