I think it did very well [In reply to] Can't Post

this past weekend, considering the competition from the Chinese blockbuster, Journey to the West, which has been so big that they are already considering a theme park based on it.

JttW has a very convoluted plot but, like The Hobbit, is a comedy-adventure. Here's the trailer and, I must admit, that one moment made me laugh:

I don't think so. [In reply to] Can't Post

Skyfall on its 73th day is only $100,000 behind Hobbit (referring to total gross) and is making more per day, so it should pass it soon. For instance, its Saturday (72th day) was almost $200,000 beyond what Hobbit did on its 72th day.

1 billion [In reply to] Can't Post

Do I overlook something or is the Box Office Mojo number still without China?

Because if it is, the Hobbit has already crossed the 1 billion.

(PS: I think there is a typo for the Finland number on BOM...)

Oh, you mean the foreign section... [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, it's not in there but the total gross includes everything and is pretty much up to date (weekly updates).

Yeah, that's quite a bit of ground to cover, [In reply to] Can't Post

even with Skyfall being pretty much done. Even if AUJ gets another month or so in the theaters, it's falling out of theaters in greater numbers every week. It's too bad-- it's sooo close!

I wouldn't worry about it.... [In reply to] Can't Post

.....this is a trilogy that has long way to go. Plus, after only one installment, it's considered a success.

The crazy thing is I'm already counting down the days to DOS.Sly Let the good times roll....

It's all good. [In reply to] Can't Post

It made 300 mil., and it'll make 1 bil. soon enough. I was just looking forward to the next, and last, milestone for AUJ's theatrical run. I'm glad that it's done so well after the drubbing it took from critics, and i'm just happy that there are zero impediments to us getting the next two films as planned, and all the Extended Editions and book tie-ins and different soundtrack releases. All is good in Middle-earth.

The main thing is, it will almost certainly make a billion. It only needs 19.5 million more, [In reply to] Can't Post

and even though China is the only way it is likely to get there, it is rather unlikely that it won't be able to muster that much over the next few weeks, and having had such a strong opening, they are almost certain to keep it for a while.

In Reply To
When they say Hobbit is the 4th biggest 3-day opening, i guess they only count movies that opened on a Friday, so not Avengers for example.

I dunno which are the other 2 movies that opened bigger (3-day) than Hobbit.

Well, looking around it seems pretty likely they were Transformers movies. [In reply to] Can't Post

the last one had an over 50 million dollar opening there, and made over 100 million eventually. They love robots and giant monsters, it seems. lol. Maybe the Stone Giants scene was included just for China. lol
