Is a certain Istrai going to die or not? Can't Post

Meaning Radagast. Well is hero isn't he? Must confess, I don't know. He isn't about in the Lotr films and only briefly in the books. Looking at the film, he doesn't look like the type to survive a set to with the Necromancer, but one never knows. Still, what does anyone else think?

I do think so [In reply to] Can't Post

I have no guess as to when or where, but his death could motivate Gandalf to avenge him later on. Assuming anyone but the Necromancer himself does so.

Saruman dies in Episode 6. [In reply to] Can't Post

As for Radagast? I remember reading something about a sledding accident, bunnies rushed him over a cliff I think. But then, given the falls the dwarves and Bilbo have survived (and come to think of it, Aragorn and Sam in LOTR) that's probably not true.

So I'm guessing he will die from Psittacosis, which is "an infection caused by Chlamydophila psittaci, a type of bacteria found in the droppings of birds. Birds spread the infection to humans." (Read more) Yeah, that sounds about right.

Personally [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't want Radagast to die. I know he doesn't appear in the film adaptations of The Lord of the Rings, but he does appear briefly in the book. I think he should just play his part, and then we just assume he went off on his own during the War of the Ring. I mean, Thranduil is still alive during the War of the Ring, yet we don't see him at all. Why not be the same with Radagast, I figure.

Off with his head! [In reply to] Can't Post

I say go for it. I don't want a cheesy death though (no falling on to a spike from some great height). If it's not sensible, then I don't want it. But then again, Radagast just walking away would also be pretty dramatic.

him walking away [In reply to] Can't Post

would be even more dramatic. If he says that he doesn't feel save anymore or that he thinks that he is not strong enough to conquer this kind of evil again.

... [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd always start with a presumption that we'll get the book answer, i.e. that he survives.

Both the quantity and quality of reasons to suppose that he won't are fairly weak IMO.

I do sometimes wonder what Radagast was doing at the time of [say] Pellenor.

Only months earlier he was seemingly dedicated enough to the cause to be worried about Sauron & help out by delivering messages and so on.

Odd then that [according to Tolkien] he preferre to spend his time having a tea party with Sebastian the hedgehog [or whatever] than get involved in the battles that defined & indeed ended an entire Age.

War in the East [In reply to] Can't Post

We do not know much about the war in the east. Just that there was battle in Dale and Dain and Brand die before the gates of Erebor. But since Radagst lived in that area it is likely that he participated on that front which is why we would not see him on the western front. Just a thought.

That's what I've always thought about, [In reply to] Can't Post

that Radagast would be doing his part to help drive away the evil either at Dale & Erebor, or with the attacks on Lothlorien. Even if he doesn't engage in combat, I'm sure his relationship with nature/animals would come in handy in resisting the evil that was surrounding everyone.

"The Moth" [In reply to] Can't Post

I was under the impression that the "moth" in LotR had Radagast behind it somehow. This could contribute to the idea that he survives.
