Answer to Riddle (finally!) Can't Post

Hello, everyone!
I'm sorry this is so late, but I had an outer and inner ear infection (yes, which amounted to more than one painful earache) for the past two weeks, so I've been a little off the ball. Anyways, I think I owe everyone who came up with such creative ideas an answer.
And here it is:
A shadow. Congratulations to Ruxendil Thoorg, who was the first person to guess correctly.
Thank you, to everyone who guessed! Your guesses were very creative.
-Greetings from the Misty Mountains

The Riddle (reminder) [In reply to] Can't Post

The riddle was asked here. And this is how it went:

Quote

I grow with the day,
I sleep with the night,
In mornings light of day
practically gone from sight
What am I?

'There are older and fouler things than Orcs in the deep places of the world.' - Gandalf the Grey, The Fellowship of the Ring

Glad you're feeling better [In reply to] Can't Post

I think it's the last line that's puzzling me. There are shadows in the morning, as soon as there's light. Does that last line really work with "shadows"?

Agreed on both counts [In reply to] Can't Post

Glad you are feeling better, Erriadair!

But I also agree with CuriousG that the last line seems odd -

Shadows are very long and visible in the morning's light. Practically gone from sight sounds more like noon.

Nevertheless, I'll make some punch from my sour grapes and toast you for providing some fun & entertainment!

Yes, I should have added [In reply to] Can't Post

I love riddles and am glad you posted that.. *gollum*. More, more! Smile

Not that I'm very good at them. If my life had depended on figuring out most of the riddles between Bilbo and Gollum, I'd be a Gollum-meal for sure, but it's fun to try.

That's why [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought fatigue was a good answer.

As when it sets, shadows are quite long as the Sun rises.

Yay! [In reply to] Can't Post

Glad u're back after feeling better. Thanks for the challenging riddle. I wasn't sure I had it, mostly due to the "In mornings light of day/ practically gone from sight" lines. Maybe it depends on how one interprets them.

Cheers!
