Elu Thingol

     Elu Thingol

I have been reading through the SIL lately and am in the middle of much of the action that includes Thingol. This is not my first reading and thus most of my conclusions of his character come from prior readings as well as what I pick up in the current read through. I would like however to have some discussion as to some other opinions of Elu Thingol.

What do you think his motives are prior to his introduction to Beren?

What do you think of his reaction to the coming of man?

Does he by any right have lordship over Beleriand?

What are your general thoughts on his relationship with Melian, or just Thingol in general?

Depending on how well this discussion of Thingol goes, we will pick up a second part discussing his character, attitude and actions after Beren returns from Angband. Thanks in advance for your participation. Apologies if this discussuon interupts the current reading room discussion on the SIL. If you would like I can postpone this until we get to these chapters. Just let me know.

But I'll wait until we get to that chapter in a couple of weeks before I weigh in myself. It's likely that NZ Strider will ask those questions and more.
