The clip of Gandalf fight Thrain (or supposedly Thrain) was only in the first trailer before they split the movie into 3 parts I believe. I would not be surprised if they re-wrote the storyline of Thrain since they are doing lengthy pick ups this year.

I expect some sort of explanation as to how Gandalf met Thrain and got the map and key (probably in the prologue or in a flashback).
