pacing [In reply to] Can't Post

I suspect the increased sense of detail may have something to do with the HFR and 3D (none of which were used on LOTR). I love the detail, and that fact that you can see detail even when things are moving fast."

3D can certainly be one of the reasons why thereīs a greater sense of detail to AUJ compared to FoTR. But I suspect the pacing and camera work also adds to the greater sense of detail in AUJ. The pacing is slower, which makes it easier to notice the details and it felt to me like we didnīt have all these quick cuts and abrupt camera movements (read camera diving and flying) which there are plenty of in FoTR. Also AUJ focuses more on the scenery in itself, while FoTR tries more to evoke the history and remnants of the past in the landscape, through ruins and broken bridges and statues etc.

Of course, looking at FoTR, I can see that many different styles are employed, some quite overtly realistic (Frodo leaving with Sam catching up with him), some more stylized and others leaning very much towards fantasy (like the bridges and collapsing stairs in Moria).

You can't please all the people all the time [In reply to] Can't Post

Just shows how hard it is to please everyone. We don't all see what we actually got the same way, let alone wanting the same thing.
