Clearly Gloin is following in the footsteps of his son (since the films have been made backwards)...

Scary how similar they look! Saw in the Hobbit Chronicles book (art and design from the first film), that Alan Lee had drawn the pics for the locket Gloin is carrying (pics of his wife and son, Gimli, of course). Alan Lee did the Gimli pic based on what John Rhys Davies looked like as a kid...

I'm also quite fond of Oin's design.
